I started creating as a child, even before I understood the term "artist". I simply knew that if there was a blank piece of paper (or wall), I had to correct the emptiness with my own brand of expression. I was blessed with a mother who has encouraged my creativity every step of the way.
My current style of expression is non-representational. Occasionally, I may venture into the abstract, playing with symbol and form.
At present, any theme is fair game. Subject matter depends on my mood or something that has captured my attention. I prefer natural/organic compositions.
I am fascinated with water-based and mixed media, especially acrylic. So much can be accomplished and simulated with acrylic grounds, texture gels, various added materials and bold color. These appeal to my tactile nature. My aim is to create imagery that excites the senses and provokes imaginative thought.
I am a detailed and premonitory dreamer and many of the images I create come from this realm. There are times, as well, that with a clearing of mind, the blank canvas can show me what will be. At times, I know exactly what steps will be taking in the creation of the painting, through to completion. Other times, the painting creates itself as I go along.
I have always admired the work of Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Claude Monet. Their lively use of brushstroke and color brings about a deeper, richer interpretation of realities.
More modern artists such as Susan Sullivan, have inspired me to explore combining various materials in beautiful ways.
Color sets off emotion and I am experimenting with the use of color to convey the mood of the composition. They also convey my personality. In everything I do, I love passion and excitement - good or bad. Color is intense for me.
What makes this most interesting is that I am outwardly quiet and low-key. My paintings are the extension of my inner spirit. My art is my voice.
My goal is to use the abilities I have to positively affect this world. My art is my way of offering charity where ever it is needed.
